I have received permission to reprint a few pages from Thomas Friedman’s book, The World is Flat. A couple of lines really struck a tune with me.
“There comes a times when you’ve got to put away the Game Boy, turn off the television, shut off the iPdo, and get your kids down to work.”
In a recent seminar a dad was lamenting how lazy his son was. This dad said all he asked his son to do was to take the trash out and bring the can back - in a timely manner! I’ve done the same thing but look how low of an expectation he placed on his son.
Dads this world we are in is changing, right before our eyes. What are you doing to teach your kids about hard work and sacrificing now for a better future. Or are you fostering the entitlement that Friedman describes as, “me, me, me and now.”
